Have you attended any Bitcoin and Blockchain conferences lately? If so, you might have met Andreas Antonopolous in person.
Andreas Antonopoulos is a “critically-acclaimed best-selling author, speaker, educator, and one of the world’s foremost bitcoin and open blockchain experts”. Antonopolous coined the Bitcoin phrase “The Internet of Money” and subsequently wrote a book with this title.
Where it began
Antonopoulos was born in London, England and raised in Athens, Greece. He received a degree in Computer Science and Data Communications and Distributed Systems from University College London and thereafter co-founded a technology research company in New York City where he advised Fortune 500 company executives on networking, security, data centers, and cloud computing.
Antonopolous public speaking career began in 1990 and sharpened his skills by speaking in front of “audiences ranging from five executives in a corporate boardroom to thousands in conferences.” As an accomplished speaker and educator, he has more than 1000 speaking engagements to his name.
In 2011, Antonopoulos was introduced to Bitcoin and his first reaction was “Nerd money!”. Then in 2012, he read the Bitcoin Whitepaper and became totally obsessed. He abandoned his job as a freelance consultant and started speaking at conferences about bitcoin, consulting for startups, and writing articles, for free. This action of giving freely to the community, built Andreas Antonopolous tremendous support for his efforts and in December 2017, this appreciation was returned… in the shape of Bitcoin.
Over 100 bitcoins were sent to Antonopoulos by more than a thousand followers and he was deeply moved by the gesture and said: “Words are my craft, but tonight I am speechless.”
