Road tripping South Africa’s famous Garden Route should be on your bucket list! Along the scenic Garden Route, nestled between George and Plettenberg Bay, you will find the charming town of Knysna. The area’s natural beauty of indigenous forests, tranquil lakes, exotic lagoon, and golden beaches is breathtaking.
One of the local businesses, The Node, was recently featured supporting local efforts to “Spring clean greater Knsyna” and Waste Nothing Clean Up on 21 September 21, which is International Coastal CleanUp Day. Read further here.
The Node Knysna is located in a little oasis in the town, called Oaks on Main, where you can find many more artisans busy doing their thing. From woodwork, leather work, music lessons and even a little store where they make their own clothing as well as the best coffee in town from Snobs Coffee Shop!
Local resident, Mary-Jane Paulsen, opened The Node on the 21st of December 2018 with the ethos of wanting to support local South African brands and artisans.
I’ve done a lot of searching and scouting for artisan goods and I must say it is not always easy to find but it’s been wonderful how many of the local artisans find me and come and show their hand crafted work… I always say that I love to see what people are making and hearing their stories behind what they do is so incredible. So if there are any artisans out there who are making awesome things…come and pop in and say hi! I would love to see what you are making.
My shop has a very unique style – I like to keep it earthy and green with a touch of Boho.”
BUT… The Node is not just a little artisan shop!
They also offer cold pressed fruit and veggie juices, Nice creams and some light meals on The Node’s ‘much menu’ for those that come in hungry, as well as specializing in some guilt-free, “good for you” treats. The protein balls are a huge hit with the customers as they are sugar and gluten-free and the date and tahini fudge is also a must try when visiting!

I also have a plan to create an Eco-friendly starter kit for our customers to purchase just to help them with the first few steps of making a change in their lifestyle. So keep your eye out for that!” Mary-Jane ends
